Fenofibrate is a medication used to treat high cholesterol and high triglycerides. The brand name equivalents of Fenofibrate include Lofibra, Lipofen, Tricor, Fenoglide and others.

Fenofibrate is taken once daily and works by blocking receptors in the body that create cholesterol.

Fenofibrate is very well tolerated by most people who take it, however some common side effects include upset stomach, headache and back pain.

Over time, high cholesterol can lead to serious cardiac issues including chest pain (angina), heart attack and even stroke. These severe problems can sometimes lead to death.

You will likely have to take Fenofibrate for 2-3 months in order to see the benefits on a lab test. It is important to take Fenofibrate regularly. You may not be able to feel the cardiac benefits of Fenofibrate.

Talk to your pharmacist about whether you should take your dose of Fenofibrate with a meal. All Fenofibrate dosages should be taken with a full glass of water. 

Muscle problems have happened while taking Fenofibrate. These include mild to severe muscle cramps, muscle pain, weakness, fatigue or fever. Talk to your doctor if you experience any of these issues.
