Many people are automatically enrolled in Original Medicare (Medicare Part A and Part B). But those who aren't must wait out the application process, which can take anywhere from 45 to 90 days. In this guide, we walk you through the process of how you can check the status of your Medicare application.
If you’ve applied for a Medicare Advantage (Medicare Part C) plan and want to check on the status of your application, or if you want to compare plans that are available where you live and cover everything Original Medicare covers while also offering some additional benefits that might include prescription drug coverage, hearing, dental and more, you can call to speak with a licensed insurance agent who can help answer your questions.
How to check your Medicare Enrollment and Application Status, you have a few options:
There are two places to check your Medicare status online for your application of Medicare Part B.
The first involves logging into your MyMedicare.Gov account. MyMedicare is operated by the federal government and serves as an online portal for Medicare beneficiaries to review benefits and claims and manage other aspects of their coverage.
Once you log in, visit the “Check enrollment” page for information about the status of your application.
Another way you can check the status of a Medicare application online is by logging into your My Social Security account, which is operated by the Social Security Administration (SSA). You may create an account or sign into an existing account and then select “Your benefit application” and “View details” to see information about the status of your Medicare application.
You may check the status of your Medicare application over the phone by calling the Social Security Administration at 1-800-772-1213 and following the automated prompts to check the status of an application or to speak with a representative.
You may also be able to check the status of your Medicare application by calling Medicare customer service at 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227).
If you wish to speak with someone in person about the status of your Medicare application, you may do so by visiting the local Social Security office near you. Find the Social Security office nearest where you live and make sure to visit during operating hours.
The status of a Medicare application may include the date the application was received, the address of the Social Security office that is handling the application and any requests for additional documents.
Medicare will mail you a letter with a decision about your application once one has been reached. If your application is accepted, you will also receive your Welcome to Medicare Guide and your Medicare card.
