Carvedilol is usually taken 1 to 2 times daily, depending on the cardiac condition you are treating. Carvedilol works by blocking beta receptors in the heart. This helps relax your blood vessels and lower your blood pressure.

Major side effects of Carvedilol include fatigue, dizziness, diarrhea, weight gain, joint pain and upset stomach or vomiting.

You may not be able to feel the benefit of Carvedilol immediately, but do not stop taking Carvedilol unless you are instructed to by your doctor.

You may feel dizzy while taking Carvedilol. If you experience extreme discomfort or pass out, talk to your doctor as your blood pressure may be too low.

If you have diabetes, test your blood sugar regularly and be aware of potential low blood sugar levels, even if you don’t feel symptoms. Carvedilol can mask the signs of low blood sugar.
