Latanoprost is a medication used to treat elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension. The brand name equivalent of Latanoprost is called Xalatan.

Latanoprost is used once daily in the evening. Latanoprost works on receptors in the eye to help reduce pressure.

The common side effects of Latanoprost include eye irritation, blurred eyesight, burning, stinging and noticeable eyelash growth.

Use Latanoprost in the eye only, and use it in the evening. Try not to miss doses.

Wash your hands before and after use. After use, keep your eyes closed and put pressure on the inside corner of eye for 1-2 minutes. If you are using another drug that goes in the eye, separate use by 5 minutes.

Be sure to take out contact lenses before using Latanoprost. You can place your contact lenses back in 15 minutes after the drug is given.

Store unopened Latanoprost bottles in the refrigerator. Once opened, it can be stored at room temperature for 6 weeks.

Talk to your doctor if you experience eye pain, changes in eye sight or extreme eye irritation.
