Levofloxacin is an antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections. It is available as a brand name and as a generic, and comes as an oral tablet, oral liquid, eye drop or ear drop.
Levofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic commonly used to treat infections such as urinary infections, bone and joint infections, eye infections, ear infections, bronchitis, pneumonia and more. The brand name equivalents of Levofloxacin include Levaquin and Quixin.
Levofloxacin is usually taken 2 to 3 times daily, depending on the type of infection being treated. Levofloxacin blocks bacteria from reproducing, allowing the infection to heal.
Common side effects of Levofloxacin include upset stomach, diarrhea and headache.

It is very important to take your full course of antibiotics, even if your infection seems to improve and you feel better. Don’t stop taking Levofloxacin early without your doctor’s instruction.
Levofloxacin can be taken with or without food. Some antibiotics can cause an upset stomach. If you experience stomach pain or similar symptoms, trying taking levofloxacin with food.
Take Levofloxacin 2 hours before or 6 hours after antacids or other products that contain magnesium, calcium, aluminum, iron or zinc.
Fluoroquinolone antibiotics have been associated with many different side effects including tendon problems, nerve pain, inability to focus or memory loss. Talk to your doctor if you have any severe side effects, especially if you experience extreme diarrhea.
People often have allergic reactions to antibiotics. Tell your doctor if you experience signs of an allergic reaction such as skin rashes or swelling of the mouth, lips or tongue.
