Meloxicam is a medication used to treat symptoms related to osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. It is available as a brand name and as a generic and comes as an oral capsule, oral liquid or oral tablet.

Meloxicam is a medication typically used to treat the symptoms related to osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Meloxicam is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug that works to block enzymes in the body to decrease inflammation and treat pain.

The brand name equivalent of Meloxicam is called Mobic. Meloxicam is typically taken once daily.

Major side effects of meloxicam include headache, constipation, diarrhea, upset stomach, heartburn, gas, dizziness and signs of a common cold.

Meloxicam can be taken with or without food. If it causes an upset stomach, you can try taking it with food.

Meloxicam can cause an increased risk of cardiac events including heart attack and stroke, which can be fatal. This risk can occur early in treatment and may increase the longer you use the drug. Do not use this drug if you have had coronary artery bypass graft surgery.

Meloxicam and other NSAID drugs can cause an increased risk of serious stomach side effects including bleeding, stomach ulcers and stomach tears.

Call your doctor if you have any signs of bleeding including throwing up blood, blood in the urine, black tarry stools, bleeding from the gums, abnormal bruises or any other abnormal bleeding.
