Nystatin is a medication used to treat a variety of fungal infections. It is available as a brand name or a generic drug, and it comes as an oral capsule, oral tablet, oral liquid and as a topical cream and ointment.

Nystatin is a medication used to treat many different fungal infections including infections of the mouth, intestines and skin. Nystatin is typically used 3-4 times a day.

Nystatin kills fungal cells in the body, allowing your infection to heal. Brand name equivalents of Nystatin include Mycostatin, Nystop and Nyamyc.

Common side effects of Nystatin when taken orally include stomach pain, upset stomach and diarrhea. Topical forms of nystatin are typically well tolerated.

If you are using the oral liquid for an oral infection, you should swish the liquid in your mouth and hold it in your mouth for several minutes before swallowing.

Use the topical form of Nystatin on your skin only and do not take it by mouth. Clean your skin before use, and wash your hands before and after.

The topical creams and ointments are typically well tolerated, but if you experience a rash or skin irritation, let your doctor know.
