Thorazine is a medication that contains the active ingredient Chlorpromazine.

Thorazine is used to treat a variety of conditions including the following: behavioral problems, bipolar disorder, chronic hiccups, hyperactivity, nausea and/or vomiting, porphyria, schizophrenia, restlessness prior to surgery and tetanus.

Common side effects of Thorazine include constipation, dry mouth, drowsiness, stuffy nose and upset stomach.

Thorazine can be taken with or without food. Drink a lot of liquids throughout the day while taking Thorazine.

If you take Thorazine regularly, don’t stop taking it suddenly as you can experience withdrawal. Talk to your doctor about the appropriate steps to stop taking this medication if you wish to do so.

Thorazine can sometimes lead to a condition called neuroleptic malignant syndrome. Signs of this condition include muscle cramps or stiffness, dizziness, headache, fever, confusion, fast or abnormal heartbeat or excessive sweating.

Thorazine should not be used to treat dementia symptoms in older adults, as it can increase the risk of death due to heart disease or infection.
