What is an Anthem In-network Doctor?
A doctor or other healthcare provider who accepts an Anthem insurance plan is said to be “in-network.” Anthem Medicare Advantage plans have a list of network providers who have agreed to accept the plan and may include:
- Primary care doctors or general practitioners
- Specialists
- Dentists
- Eye doctors
- Pharmacies
- Facilities like hospitals and rehab centers
- Medical equipment suppliers
Why Should I See an Anthem In-network Doctor?
If you have an Anthem Medicare Advantage plan, seeing an Anthem in-network doctor is one of the best ways to reduce your out-of-pocket costs for care.
If you are enrolled in an HMO (Health Maintenance Organization) plan, your coverage will be restricted to only care that is administered by an in-network provider. If you visit a provider who is not part of the Anthem network, you will not receive any coverage for your care and will have to pay for the appointment out of pocket.
If you are enrolled in a PPO (Preferred Provider Organization) plan, you may still receive some coverage when visiting an out-of-network provider but will maximize your coverage by remaining in the Anthem network of providers for your care.
One exception is with emergency care, which is required by law to be covered at the same rate regardless of whether or not the provider is in network.
Does Anthem Have a Good Network of Doctors?
Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield is a large health insurance company with a vast network of many different types of healthcare providers. The size of Anthem’s network ensures plan members are given ample opportunity to receive in-network care.
How Do I Find an Anthem In-network Doctor?
You can search for Anthem in-network doctors and other providers online using Anthem’s secure website. If you are a current Anthem member, you may sign in using your member ID for a more personalized search. If you are not an Anthem member, you may still conduct a network search as a guest.
