What type of Humana Medicare plans include routine dental coverage?
Beginning in 2024, all Humana Medicare Advantage plans include routine dental, routine vision and hearing benefits. Humana sells four types of Medicare Advantage plans.
- HMO. Members of a Health Maintenance Organization plan utilize a primary care physician for initial visits and to coordinate care within the plan’s network of participating providers. The primary care physician refers the beneficiary to specialists as needed.
- PPO. A Preferred Provider Organization plan allows you some freedom to see providers outside of the plan’s network while still receiving some coverage for the care. Unlike an HMO, a PPO plan does not typically require you to obtain a referral in order to see a specialist.
- SNP. A Special Needs Plan is designed with a specific health condition in mind and has benefits that are tailored to those needs. Special Needs Plans are also available to those who are eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid.
- PFFS. With a Private Fee-For-Service plan, you can visit any health care provider who accepts Medicare and agrees to the payment terms of the plan.
Routine dental benefits can be found in Humana’s Medicare Advantage plans. Dental coverage is not included with Medigap or Medicare Part D.
However, a Part D plan may provide coverage for medications used as part of a dental treatment plan, such as antibiotics prescribed after a tooth extraction.
