Whether or not your health care provider accepts your Wellpoint Medicare Advantage Plan will depend on the type of Wellpoint Medicare plan you have and your specific plan network.
Wellpoint offers a variety of Medicare Advantage Plans that each include a level of coverage for visits to different types of providers, such as dentists, pharmacists and primary care physicians (PCPs).
Do Wellpoint Medicare Advantage Plans have provider networks?
Wellpoint offers several types of Medicare Advantage Plans.
With most Medicare health maintenance organization (HMO) plans, you typically select a primary care physician from within your plan provider network. Network coverage and plan availability may vary depending on where you live.
Your primary care physician can provide you with referrals to see specialists for specialized care within your plan provider network. You also typically receive preventive care and annual exams from your primary care provider.
Wellpoint plan benefits
Depending on the plan you choose, your plan may include $0 premiums and no deductible.
Wellpoint Medicare Advantage Plans combine your Medicare Part A hospital insurance benefits, Medicare Part B medical insurance benefits and Medicare prescription drug coverage into one simple plan.
Wellpoint plans can offer benefits that aren’t covered by Original Medicare (Part A and Part B), such as:
- Eye exams plus $200 for eyeglasses or contact lenses
- Hearing exams and hearing aid coverage
- Dental exams, routine teeth cleanings and yearly X-ray
- No-cost SilverSneakers® membership
- Non-emergency transportation services
- Personal Emergency Response System
- Online doctor visits (telehealth)
- An allowance to spend on over-the-counter (OTC) health care items
Some Wellpoint plan members may be eligible for the Wellpoint Benefits Prepaid Card, a Medicare flex card. Eligible beneficiaries can use the flex card to help pay for services like dental, vision and hearing services, and they can be used to buy things like groceries, over-the-counter items and even utility bills.
All Wellpoint Medicare Advantage Plans include an annual out-of-pocket spending max, which Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) does not offer. This out-of-pocket cap can help protect you from spending potentially thousands of dollars in Medicare costs.
Your exact benefits will vary depending on the plan you choose.
